In June 2002, The BRE (British Research Establishment) carried out a series of Weathertightness Tests on our Skyline range of glazing bars.
The test rig included a frame on which the patent glazing test specimens were built. Timber bearers on which the specimen is built are mounted on a steel support frame. The bed for the specimens is approximately 3118mm long x 2525mm wide.
The test procedure and rig were set at a 15 degree slope, which is the reccomended minimum pitch for all patent glazing systems.

The BRE Wind Tunnel No. 3 was used to generate wind for the tests. The frame was positioned in the exhaust air stream from the wind tunnel, centrally with the bottom of the specimen towards the wind tunnel and at the same height as the platform base of the wind tunnel exit. Two spray bars with nozzles to provide driving rain were positioned in a plane 400mm upwind of the lower end of the specimens frame, and nozzles to provide deluge rainfall mounted above. A sparge bar was mounted below the head of the specimen, to simulate the run-off from a 10 metre band of roof above the specimen.

The initial stage, the 'Deluge Test', simulates very heavy rainfall with no wind or pressure differential.

Test 1 simulates very heavy rainfall in wind.

Test 2 simulates moderately high wind and rainfall.

Test 3 simulates rainfall in very high wind.

Our Skyline glazing bar system was subjected to the above 4 tests and did not incur any leakage through the frames.

The newest version of BS5516:2004 The Code of Practice for Design and Installation of Sloping and Vertical Patent Glazing incorporates the above test criteria and we are proud to state that we our glazing systems are able to meet these requirements.
