Traditional BL Type Glazing System

Our traditional BL type glazing bar range has been developed over many years to meet the needs of specifiers for an effective solution for enveloping buildings. The bars are extruded to our own design complying with grade 6063 temper T6 aluminium alloy of BS 1474.

The glazing bars strength is provided by an external stalk (or web) and can be weathered by a choice of extruded aluminium screw on caps or extruded aluminium bolted on wings.

This system readily accepts single glazing and double glazed units up to 32mm thick. The maximum self supporting span achievable is 4.70 metres for single glazing systems or 3.65 metres for a typical double glazed application.

This system will not comply with the new building regulations Document L due to the high percentage of the section residing in the external environment.

However, it still remains an extremely popular choice for single glazed canopies, covered ways and Railway Contracts where regulations are not applicable.

Our latest large contracts for railway stations at Chester, Darlington, Marylebone, Sheffield Midland, Manchester Victoria, York, Fulham and Paddington have all been carried out using our Tradional glazing bars.

The beautifully re-furbished Victoria Quarter shopping mall in Leeds was completed with this system. Over 1000m² of traditional single glazed patent glazing was used on this project. Take a look at the photos in our Gallery.

Maximum glazing bar spans are for guidance only. We will select the appropriate glazing bar for each contract. Spans are dependent upon the pitch of glazing, glazing bar centres, building shape, wind load, snow load, dead load and maintenance load.
