Following the introduction of the L Regulations in 2003, concern for the environment is now very firmly everybody's business.
A careful choice of glazing system and infill material can cut down heat loss to a minimum, thus reducing the amount of fuel required to keep the building at a comfortable temperature.
Panes of single glass or plastic sheet materials offer little resistance to the loss of heat by conduction and carry a high thermal transmittance. These materials should therefore be reserved for the use of feature canopies and walkways or other areas where heat loss is not an issue.
