Pilkington Texture Glass is a range of decorative glasses for the architect and designer. The range offers a wide choice of finishes and patterns with varying degrees of translucency. The designs give scope for combining functional suitability with decorative effect, whilst emphasising the natural light-enhancing properties of glass. The glasses can be supplied in toughened or laminated form for safety and incorporated into insulating units for thermal insulation or noise control.

Textured Glass is a rolled patterned glass, one surface of which has a specific pattern or design impressed into the surface, which creates decoration. The patterned glass allows the passage of light but depending on the depth and configuration of the pattern, varying degrees of obscuration are obtained. All patterns are classified according to their obscuration in relation to each other, the gradation being from 1 (least obscuring) to 5 (most obscuring). Warwick is an antique style glass, designed to recreate the unique appearance of traditional hand blown glasses. It differs from the other designs in the Pilkington Texture Glass range. Random reams and seeds are introduced prior to the rolling process, consequently as with hand blown glasses, no two pieces will match each other exactly.

Glass patterns are ranked for obscuration on a scale of 1 to 5 (see above Table 1.) The degree of privacy offered will depend on the lighting conditions and the distance of both the viewer and the viewed subject from the glass.

Size. The maximum standard stock size available is 1320 x 2140mm. Larger sizes may be available on request. The maximum size for toughened Pilkington Texture Glass will depend on the toughening furnace used. Larger sizes available on request for certain designs.

Appearance. Most of the designs are directional as such and should be glazed to the customer’s preferred orientation. This is especially important where several panes are glazed together, in this and all other glazing applications, the direction and match of the pattern should be decided and agreed before cutting. Note. 1 is least obscuring, 5 is most.

Obscuration. There are various degrees of obscuration, from one that offers no obscuration to those that provide a high level of privacy. When obscuration is the main requirement it is strongly advisable that the customer sees samples of Pilkington Texture Glass before making and agreeing the final choice. As a subjective guide, the Pilkington Texture Glass patterns are ranked for obscuration on a scale of 1 to 5 (see Table 1.) The degree of privacy offered will depend on the lighting conditions and the distance of both the viewer and the viewed subject from the glass.

Cleaning. Pilkington Texture Glass should only be cleaned with a clear non-abrasive cleaner. It is recommended that a stiff bristle or nylon brush be used to remove dirt from the recesses of the patterned surface.

Product Performance
The solar optical properties of Pilkington Texture Glass depend only on the thickness, not the pattern. 6mm thick patterned glass has 87% light transmission and 82% total solar heat transmission
